Painted Cave, Santa Cruz Island

Sea Cave · Ventura, California

One of the largest sea caves in the world, on the northwest shore of Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park — nearly a quarter of a mile deep with an entrance around a hundred feet high. The name comes from the lichens and algae colouring the walls, and in spring a waterfall falls across the mouth of it.
