Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Subnational Park · Canyon, Texas

The second-largest canyon in the United States — roughly 120 miles long and up to 800 feet deep — cut by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River through the flat Texas Panhandle, its walls banded red, orange and white. The state park, built by the CCC in the 1930s, runs a paved road from the rim to the canyon floor, something the Grand Canyon never lets you drive.
