Palouse Falls State Park
Subnational Park · LaCrosse, Washington
Washington's official state waterfall, a 198-foot drop into a circular basalt amphitheatre carved by the Missoula Floods at the end of the last ice age. The park is only 94 acres and consists essentially of a car park, a picnic area and a railed overlook, but the view is one of the most photographed in the state. It is also one of the most dangerous parks in the system: several people have died leaving the trail for the rim or the plunge pool, and the informal routes are now closed.
Palouse Falls Road, LaCrosse, Washington, 99143, United States
Open year round during daylight hours only - the park closes at dusk and overnight camping was ended some years ago. A Discover Pass is required to park. There is no water, no food and no fuel at the park or anywhere near it, and the last stretch of road is gravel.
