Parc des Chutes-Coulonge
A Park Around The 33 M Coulonge Falls On The Coulonge River With A Suspension Bridge Over The Gorge, A Historic Timber Slide, Lookouts And A Campground. A Scenic Ottawa Valley Waterfall Park · Fort-Coulonge, Quebec
Parc des Chutes-Coulonge is a riverside park beside the village of Fort-Coulonge, in the Pontiac region of western Quebec, about 120 km north-west of Ottawa-Gatineau (confirm). Here the Coulonge River drops roughly 33 m over a rock lip into a narrow gorge (confirm height), and the park has built its paths around the view: lookouts above the brink, a suspension footbridge across the gorge, stairs and trails along the rim, and the remains of an old timber slide, a wooden chute that once let pine logs bypass the falls on their way to the Ottawa River. The Pontiac was lumber country for more than a century, and the park uses the site to tell the story of the log drives and the camps that fed them. A campground and a small visitor building sit near the entrance. Signs are mainly in French, and many staff in the Pontiac speak English as well. A gate fee applies in season (confirm). Allow two to three hours.

The park is a seasonal site, commonly open daily from about late May or June to early October, with visitor hours that run from mid-morning to late afternoon and a later closing in July and August (confirm all dates). The gate and ticket booth are staffed only in season, and the lookouts and bridge may be shut in wind, storms or after heavy rain. Outside the season the grounds can be closed to vehicles, so call before driving out. Daylight lasts to about 9 pm at midsummer and fades by 4:30 pm in December. The village of Fort-Coulonge keeps ordinary shop hours, and many cafes close early on Sundays and holidays.
