Parc national Kuururjuaq
Quebec National Park Of About 4,460 Square Kilometres In Nunavik Running From Ungava Bay To The Torngat Mountains; Contains Mont D'Iberville, At 1,646 Metres The Highest Peak In Mainland Canada East Of The Rockies · Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec
Kuururjuaq follows the KOROC RIVER from Ungava Bay inland to the spine of the TORNGAT MOUNTAINS, and at the head of it stands MONT D'IBERVILLE - one thousand six hundred and forty-six metres, THE HIGHEST PEAK IN MAINLAND CANADA EAST OF THE ROCKIES, which sits exactly on the Quebec-Labrador boundary and is called Mount Caubvick on the Newfoundland side. The park runs about four thousand four hundred and sixty square kilometres and was created in 2009, and it takes you from tidewater through tundra, past cliffs and hanging valleys, into genuine alpine terrain - a gradient that exists almost nowhere else in eastern North America. Inuit from Kangiqsualujjuaq have used the Koroc valley continuously and the park is run with them. THERE IS NO ROAD. Access is by air to the community and then by helicopter, boat or on foot with Nunavik Parks guides, and the whole operation runs for a few weeks a year.

OUTSIDE THOSE THE PARK IS NOT OPERATING. EVERY VISIT IS A PACKAGED, GUIDED TRIP booked in advance - THERE IS NO INDEPENDENT ACCESS and no road within many hundreds of kilometres. CLIMBING MONT D'IBERVILLE IS A SEPARATE AND MORE SERIOUS UNDERTAKING requiring mountaineering experience. Weather governs everything; spare days are essential.
