Parke County Covered Bridges

Historic Bridge · Rockville, Indiana

Thirty-one surviving covered bridges in one rural county west of Indianapolis, which is the basis of Parke County's long-standing claim to be the covered bridge capital of the world. Most were built between the 1850s and the 1920s over Sugar Creek, Big Raccoon Creek and their tributaries, several are still open to traffic, and the county has signed five colour-coded driving routes linking them. The Covered Bridge Festival in the second and third weeks of October is one of the largest events in Indiana and turns a quiet farming county into gridlock.

401 East Ohio Street, Rockville, Indiana, 47872, United States

The bridges and the driving routes are open at all times and free. The Rockville visitor centre keeps daytime hours, extended during the October festival. Some bridges close for repair without notice. Mills and shops at Bridgeton and Mansfield keep seasonal hours.
