Family Owned Ski Area In Henniker, New Hampshire, One Of The Closest Sizeable Ski Hills To Boston And Manchester (Confirm), Known For Extensive Night Skiing, Strong Snowmaking And Learn To Ski Programs For Children And Adults (Confirm). · Henniker, New Hampshire

A family-owned ski area on a wooded hill just outside Henniker, in the Contoocook River valley west of Concord, and one of the closest sizeable ski hills to Boston and Manchester (confirm). It is small by northern New England standards, with a vertical drop of roughly 700 feet and a few dozen trails (confirm), but it is known across southern New Hampshire for three things: lights on most of the mountain for night skiing, heavy snowmaking that keeps trails open when the hills around it are brown, and learn-to-ski programs that have taught generations of local children (confirm). Weekday nights bring after-work skiers and race leagues, and winter weekends bring school and youth groups on buses. The hill is a practical choice for a first day on skis, a cheap evening session or a short family outing when a drive north to the big White Mountain resorts is too much. Henniker village, with New England College, a covered bridge and a few places to eat, lies a couple of miles away.

The ski season usually runs from about early December to late March, depending on cold enough nights for snowmaking; confirm opening and closing dates each year. In season the hill generally opens in the morning around 9 am and, on most nights, keeps lights and lifts running into the evening until about 9 or 10 pm (confirm which nights). Some weekdays early or late in the season may be day-only or night-only. Hours extend during the Christmas week and the February school vacation. Outside winter the ski area is largely closed to the public, with only occasional events on the grounds (confirm). Storms, rain and extreme cold can close lifts at short notice.
