Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

Natural History · Chicago, Illinois

The public face of the Chicago Academy of Sciences, which was founded in 1857 and is the oldest scientific institution in the city, rehoused in 1999 in a low building on the edge of Lincoln Park. Its reason for existing as a visit is the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven — a glasshouse holding around a thousand free-flying butterflies from forty species, which land on people and are the thing every child remembers.

2430 North Cannon Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60614, United States

Generally daily, roughly 9 AM - 5 PM with shorter weekend hours in some seasons. Butterfly Haven kept tropical year-round. Illinois-resident days published annually.
