Pembina Gorge State Park
Subnational Park · Walhalla, North Dakota
The deepest and longest river valley in North Dakota, cut by the Pembina River through the Pembina Escarpment in the far north-east corner of the state, and holding the largest uncut block of deciduous forest left in North Dakota. It is a genuine surprise in a state most people picture as flat: a wooded gorge several hundred feet deep with a trail system used by hikers, riders, mountain bikers and, on designated routes, off-road vehicles. The valley is also one of the richest late Cretaceous marine fossil beds in the region.
