Pensacola Historic District
Heritage District · Pensacola, Florida
Seville Square and the streets around it, where the Spanish under Tristan de Luna landed in 1559 — six years before St. Augustine. The settlement was destroyed by a hurricane within two years and abandoned, which is why St. Augustine holds the "continuously occupied" title and Pensacola settles for "America's First Settlement". The city has flown five flags since, and the historic village preserves what the successive occupations left.
