Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint
Viewpoint · Terrebonne, Oregon
A roadside viewpoint on US-97 north of Terrebonne where the Crooked River has cut a narrow gorge through the basalt, and where three bridges from three different eras stand side by side across it: a 1911 railway bridge, the 1926 Crooked River High Bridge that was the highest in Oregon when it was built, and the 2000 highway bridge that replaced it. The gorge is abrupt rather than gradual - the ground is flat until it is not - and the viewpoint is named for the Hudson's Bay Company fur trader who came through in the 1820s.
Ogden State Park Road, Terrebonne, Oregon, 97760, United States
Open daily, dawn to dusk, year round, and FREE - there is no day-use fee at this viewpoint, unusually for an Oregon state park site. Restrooms and picnic tables are provided. The 1926 Crooked River High Bridge is closed to traffic and open to pedestrians. ⚠ THE VIEWPOINT IS COMPLETELY EXPOSED - no shade in summer, no shelter from winter wind, and ice on the bridge deck and paths in cold weather. Early morning and late afternoon give far better light into the gorge than midday.
