Phaselis
Lycian And Roman Port City With Three Harbours, Inside Olympos Beydaglari Coastal National Park; Swimming Is Permitted From The Ancient Harbour Beaches · Kemer, Antalya
Phaselis was a trading city with three harbours on a small pine-forested peninsula, founded by Rhodian colonists and rich enough on timber and rose oil that Alexander wintered here on his way east. What makes it worth a row rather than a footnote is the state it is in: the main street still runs from one harbour to another between the foundations of shops and baths, a Roman aqueduct comes in along the ridge, Hadrian's gate stands at the head of the street, and the theatre sits in the trees on the slope - and all of it is a few metres from water you are allowed to swim in. People come with towels. You walk the ruins in the morning, swim off the harbour beach at midday under the pines with Mount Tahtali standing behind you, and that combination is not on offer anywhere else on this coast. It is inside a national park and it is busy from mid-morning, so the first two hours after opening are a different place entirely.
Tekirova Mahallesi, Phaselis Oren Yeri, Kemer, Kemer, Antalya, Turkiye
Open daily with longer summer hours and an earlier winter close, and the gate shuts well before dark. Day boats from Kemer and Tekirova arrive from mid-morning through the afternoon in season. The beaches are inside the ticketed site, so access ends when the site closes. Winter hours are much shorter and the site is very quiet.
