Pickett CCC Memorial State Park
Tennessee State Park — International Dark Sky Park · Jamestown, Tennessee
Tennessee's first state park, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and still full of their stonework, on 19,200 acres of upper Cumberland wilderness immediately next to Big South Fork. There are caves, natural bridges and sandstone rock houses in the woods, and a lake the CCC dammed by hand. It was later named the first International Dark Sky Park in the southeastern United States — on a clear moonless night the Milky Way is visible from the lake shore without walking anywhere at all.
4605 Pickett Park Highway, Jamestown, Tennessee, 38556, United States
Open daily year round, free, and open at night on purpose as a certified International Dark Sky Park. Day-use areas generally 8 AM to sunset with night access for stargazing and for registered campers and cabin guests. Scheduled astronomy programmes through the year.
