Pike Place Market

Food Market · Seattle, Washington

A nine-acre public market opened in 1907 on a bluff above Elliott Bay, created so that farmers could sell straight to the public and break the commission houses that were fixing produce prices. It is one of the oldest continuously operated public markets in the United States and it still runs on that founding rule: the farm and craft stalls are worked by the people who grew or made the goods. It is also a real neighbourhood rather than a food hall, with low-income housing, a medical clinic, a preschool and a food bank operating inside the same buildings.

85 Pike Street, Seattle, Washington, 98101, United States

Open daily year round. Most farm and craft stalls run roughly 9 AM - 5 PM, shops roughly 10 AM - 6 PM, and restaurants and bars keep their own later hours. The arcades are quietest before 9 AM. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Entry is free and there is no ticket for any part of the market itself.
