Pima Air & Space Museum
Non Profit Aerospace Museum · Tucson, Arizona
One of the largest aviation museums in the world not funded by a government, on the edge of Tucson beside Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Around 400 aircraft and spacecraft fill six hangars and about 80 acres of outdoor display, from early planes to an SR-71 Blackbird, B-29 and B-17 bombers, presidential aircraft and airliners, with a narrated tram tour of the outdoor field. The museum long ran bus tours into the base's military aircraft boneyard, but those tours have ended permanently for Air Force security reasons, and nothing now takes the public inside. Plan a long half day and see the outdoor field before the afternoon heat.
