A 3,400 Acre Park In The Middle Of St. John'S With Forest Trails, Ponds, A Campground, The Fluvarium River Viewing Centre, A Memorial University Botanical Garden And Winter Skiing. A Well Used City Park With A Wild Feel · St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Pippy Park is a large urban park on the north side of St. Johns, a patchwork of forest, ponds, barrens and playing fields said to cover about 3,400 acres (confirm). It was set up in 1969 as a planned green belt around Memorial University and the hospitals, and it has outgrown that job. Trails run beside Long Pond and Oxen Pond and join the Grand Concourse network toward Rennie River (confirm names), a campground sits among the spruce, and a public golf course and playing fields fill the flat ground. The Fluvarium, a river-viewing centre, lets you look through windows into a real brook at the level of the trout, and the Memorial University Botanical Garden lies close by (confirm whether it is inside the boundary). Locals walk dogs, jog and ski here without leaving the city. Visitors will find a wild feel, fog that rolls in without warning and a short drive to the downtown harbour. Facilities are simple and the trails are not marked like a national park.

Winter use turns the park into a ski and snowshoe area from about December to March when snow lies deep, and grooming depends on the snowfall (confirm). The campground is a summer facility, usually from about late May to early October (confirm dates). Daylight lasts past nine in June and ends before five in December, and fog or freezing drizzle can arrive in any month.
