Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium

Zoo · Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Seventy-seven acres on a hillside in Highland Park, open since 1898, and one of a small number of American institutions that runs a full zoo and a two-storey aquarium on one site and one ticket. Water's Edge puts polar bears and sea otters behind glass you stand under; the African Savanna and the Islands sections carry the large mammals; and the aquarium building holds sharks, a stingray touch pool and an Amazon section. It is built into a slope, which is the thing visitors notice most after the animals.

7370 Baker Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15206, United States

Open daily, generally 9:30 AM to 5 PM with shorter winter hours and last admission an hour before closing. Timed tickets online are cheaper than the gate; parking is charged separately. Closed on a small number of major holidays. Seasonal winter light event on selected evenings.
