Plaisance National Park
A Sepaq National Park Of Marshes And Bays On The Ottawa River With Boardwalks, A Waterfall At Plaisance Falls, Bird Watching, Canoe And Kayak Routes, A Campground And Cycling Paths. A Good Birdwatching Park With A Landscape Unlike The Rest Of The Laurentians · Plaisance, Quebec
Parc national de Plaisance is a Sepaq park of marshes, bays and islands on the north shore of the Ottawa River in the Outaouais, near the village of Plaisance and roughly 60 to 70 km east of Gatineau (confirm distance). Where the Ottawa River widens into a delta of reedbeds, the park protects one of the best birdwatching wetlands in Quebec, with floating boardwalks and a tower reaching over cattails, and a short walk leads to Plaisance Falls, a tall cascade dropping into a gorge. Paddlers explore channels in canoes and kayaks, cyclists use the flat paths, and the campground suits families who want a quiet night near the water. The landscape is flat river country, not the hills of the Laurentians, with big skies, floodplain forest and farms along the shore. Spring flooding and autumn migration give the best shows, and the park suits patient walkers and families with children (confirm all prices and dates).

Plaisance is open year round for day use, with the full program, rentals and the boardwalks running from about late May to mid October and reduced services in winter, so confirm dates on the Sepaq site before you go. The welcome pavilion is generally staffed in the daytime, and campers follow check-in and check-out times set at booking (confirm). Spring floods can close low sections of path and some boardwalks, and the gates may close at dusk for day visitors. Winter services are limited to snowshoe and ski trails in the marsh and woods.
