Pony Express Museum

History Museum · St. Joseph, Missouri

A museum in the surviving portion of the Pike's Peak Stables, the building westbound Pony Express riders actually set out from - the first fast mail line across the North American continent, running from St. Joseph to Sacramento from 3 April 1860 until 26 October 1861. It lasted nineteen months, lost money throughout, was made obsolete by the transcontinental telegraph, and has occupied the American imagination ever since out of all proportion to its life.

914 Penn Street, St. Joseph, Missouri, 64503, United States

Generally 9 AM to 5 PM Monday to Saturday with afternoon hours on Sunday, and reduced winter hours. Closed major holidays. Check before travelling in winter, when the schedule contracts. St. Joseph has several other museums that keep different hours again, so a museum day here needs a little planning.
