Popham Beach State Park
Beach · Phippsburg, Maine
Six hundred acres of sand at the mouth of the Kennebec in Phippsburg, and the busiest day-use state park in Maine. It sits on a genuinely dynamic shoreline - the beach builds and erodes visibly between years, sandbars appear and vanish, and at low tide a bar opens to Fox Island that strands people on a regular basis. There is a fort at each end and an ocean that is very cold.
10 Perkins Farm Lane, Phippsburg, Maine, 04562, United States
Open year round, generally 9 AM to sunset, with a park entrance fee charged in season. ⚠ IT IS THE HIGHEST-VOLUME DAY-USE STATE PARK IN MAINE AND THE CAR PARK CLOSES WHEN FULL - on fine July and August days that happens by late morning and cars are turned away. There is no overflow. Facilities are seasonal; the beach is open all year.
