Port Isabel Lighthouse
Lighthouse · Port Isabel, Texas
A squat brick lighthouse of 1852 on the mainland side of the Laguna Madre, and the only one of the Texas coast lights that the public can climb. Seventy-odd steps up a spiral stair put you level with the causeway, South Padre Island and the flat shining lagoon between them, and it is the last surviving lighthouse of the sixteen that once worked this coast.

⚠ HOURS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. Check thc.texas.gov or the City of Port Isabel before travelling; small historic sites commonly close one or two days a week. ⚠ THE ONLY TEXAS COAST LIGHTHOUSE OPEN TO CLIMB — about seventy steps up a narrow spiral stair to a confined lantern room, with no lift. The keeper's cottage visitor centre and grounds are reachable without climbing. Go at dusk for the causeway view.
