Porteau Cove Provincial Park lies on the eastern shore of Howe Sound beside Highway 99, about 40 km north of Vancouver and 25 km south of Squamish on the Sea-to-Sky route (confirm distances). The park is a long strip of pebble beach, a pier and a boat launch below steep forested mountains, facing west across the fjord to Anvil Island and the peaks of the Sunshine Coast. It is best known as one of the most popular scuba diving sites in British Columbia, where sunken ships and a purpose-built reef lie in cold, clear water just off the beach (confirm contents). Above the shore are a vehicle campground and walk-in sites, picnic tables and quiet places to watch the evening light on the water. Kayakers, anglers and families come in summer, and winter divers come for the best visibility of the year. Camping is booked through BC Parks, a day-use fee may apply, and all prices and dates should be confirmed.

Porteau Cove is a day-use park all year, with the beach, pier and dive area available in daylight, and the campground generally running from about spring to autumn with limited winter services (confirm dates with BC Parks before travelling). Campers follow check-in and check-out times set at booking (confirm). There is usually no staffed gate in the shoulder seasons, so the park relies on posted notices, and the dive parking area may be full on summer weekends. Daylight is long in June and short in December, and cold north winds can funnel down the sound in winter.
