Portland Museum of Art

Art Museum · Portland, Maine

The largest and oldest public art institution in Maine, founded as the Portland Society of Art in 1882 and now occupying a linked group of buildings in Portland's Arts District. The collection runs to American and European art with a deep Maine holding - Homer, Hopper, the Wyeths - and the museum also owns and opens the Winslow Homer Studio at Prouts Neck, which is the single most interesting thing it does.

7 Congress Square, Portland, Maine, 04101, United States

Open most of the week with at least one closed day and a late evening; check before travelling, and note that the hours change seasonally. Closed on major holidays. THE WINSLOW HOMER STUDIO IS A SEPARATE, SEASONAL, TICKETED TOUR THAT MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE and departs from the museum - it is not included with admission and it is not available year-round.
