Prada Marfa
Modern Monument · Valentine, Texas
A sealed adobe box on the side of US 90 in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert, built in 2005 by the artists Elmgreen and Dragset as a permanently locked luxury boutique stocked with real Prada shoes and handbags, left to decay in place. It is not in Marfa. It stands outside Valentine, about twenty-six miles northwest, and it has been vandalised, robbed, restored and declared a museum by the State of Texas.
