Pribilof Islands

Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Area; Unangan Communities Of St. Paul And St. George · St. Paul Island, Alaska

A group of remote islands in the Bering Sea about 750 miles west of Anchorage, with St. Paul and St. George the only inhabited ones, home mainly to Unangan (Aleut) people. They are one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America: hundreds of thousands of northern fur seals haul out on the rookery beaches in summer, and some two million seabirds of more than 270 recorded species use the cliffs, including puffins, auklets and the red-legged kittiwake, which nests almost nowhere else. Birders come in spring migration from mid-May to mid-June for rare Asian species. Visits are usually package tours with the Native-owned St. Paul Island Tours covering flights, lodging, meals and guides. In January 2026 Aleutian Airways began a four-year Essential Air Service contract for St. Paul, with summer flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
