Prickett's Fort State Park
Fort · Fairmont, West Virginia
A full-scale reconstruction of a 1774 frontier refuge fort at the mouth of Prickett's Creek on the Monongahela, built on the site of the original and staffed in season by costumed interpreters working at period trades. These forts were not garrisons but places settlers ran to — several hundred people crowded inside a log stockade while a raid passed — and this is the clearest surviving picture of that in the state.
