Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island
Island · Put-in-Bay, Ohio
A limestone island three miles off the Ohio shore whose village turns into the loudest summer resort on the Great Lakes between June and Labor Day, and goes almost silent for the rest of the year. A 352-foot memorial column to the Battle of Lake Erie stands over it, and beneath a winery on the island is the largest geode anyone has found.
1 Bayview Avenue, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, 43456, United States
HEAVILY SEASONAL. The village and most businesses run roughly May to October, peaking June to Labor Day. Ferry service reduces sharply in winter and can stop for ice.
