Queens Botanical Garden
Botanical Garden · Flushing, New York
Thirty-nine acres in Flushing that began as a five-acre garden exhibit at the 1939 WORLD'S FAIR and stayed — ⚠ THE ONLY BOTANICAL GARDEN IN NEW YORK CITY THAT GREW OUT OF A WORLD'S FAIR. Its 2007 visitor centre was the first building in New York City to receive LEED Platinum certification, and its planting is deliberately shaped around the plants the surrounding immigrant communities actually use.
43-50 Main Street, Flushing, New York, 11355, United States
⚠ CLOSED MONDAYS, historically — check queensbotanical.org before travelling. Generally open Tuesday to Sunday with seasonal hours, closing earlier in winter. ⚠ CHECK WHETHER ADMISSION IS CURRENTLY FREE: the garden has historically offered FREE ENTRY during certain hours and in the winter months, and the mechanism has changed. Even at full price it is one of the cheapest gardens in New York City. ⚠ IT IS THIRTY-NINE ACRES AND TAKES AN HOUR — it is not the New York Botanical Garden and does not try to be. Paid parking on site; Flushing-Main Street on the 7 is ten minutes north and is accessible.
