A Craft Brewery And Small Restaurants Are In The Village. · St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
Quidi Vidi, said locally as Kitty Vitty, is a tiny working fishing village tucked inside St. John's at the end of a narrow harbour inlet. Founded in the 1700s, it has bright wooden saltbox houses, fishing stages, a small gut full of boats and the Quidi Vidi Battery, with guns dating to the era of the War of 1812 (confirm what is open). The nearby lake hosts the Royal St. John's Regatta, North America's oldest sporting event, held in early August, weather permitting. The village is small, so allow one to two hours, longer if you eat or visit the craft brewery. It suits walkers, photographers and anyone who likes a real harbour more than a polished heritage site. The lanes are steep and narrow, parking is tight and the wind can be sharp. A clear morning shows the colours best, and fog can mute everything, so check the forecast and keep the plan flexible. Signal Hill is a separate stop nearby.

The village is a living community, so the lanes and the harbour are open to walk at any time of year, but individual places keep their own hours. The Battery is seasonal and its access changes with staffing and weather, so confirm before you go. Restaurants, the craft brewery and small shops commonly open later in the day and keep shorter hours in winter. Regatta day in early August, weather permitting, changes everything, with road closures and large crowds around the lake. Many businesses reduce hours from late autumn to spring, and some close outright. Early morning is the quietest time for photography, and clear days are best.
