Rainbow Falls
State Park · Hilo, Hawaii
A waterfall in Hilo, known in Hawaiian as Waiānuenue, eighty feet tall and almost a hundred feet across, dropping into a broad pool on the Wailuku River. It is part of Hawaiʻi State Parks and sits a few minutes from downtown Hilo, reached by a car park with a viewpoint a short walk away. In morning sun the spray throws a rainbow across the face of the falls, which is what both names describe.
Rainbow Drive, Hilo, Hawaii, 96720, United States
Open daily during daylight hours and FREE, with free parking - which for a waterfall this accessible is unusual. It is part of Wailuku River State Park. ⚠ THE RAINBOW THAT GIVES IT ITS NAME NEEDS SUN AND SPRAY TOGETHER AND IS A MORNING PHENOMENON, generally before about ten. There are no facilities beyond a car park and restrooms, and no staff on site.
