Randers Regnskov is a tropical zoo in the middle of Randers, an East Jutland town on the Gudenaa river about 40 minutes north of Aarhus. It opened in 1996 under three large domes, one each for South America, Africa and Asia, and the idea is simple: instead of looking at animals behind glass, you walk along paths through a warm, humid, planted rainforest where many smaller animals, birds and bats move around you, while larger or dangerous species live in enclosures and tanks within the jungle. Visitors come for the sense of stepping out of a grey Danish day into the tropics, for the manatees seen through underwater windows, for sloths, monkeys, reptiles and free-flying birds, and because it is one of the best rainy-day family outings in Jutland. It is compact, easy to reach on foot from the station, and pairs well with Aarhus or Mariager. The honest caveat: it is a zoo, not a wild forest, so many animals hide or sleep and a quick visit can feel short for the ticket price; the heat and humidity inside also tire small children and older visitors faster than they expect.

Open all year, usually daily, with longer hours in summer and school holidays and shorter hours from autumn to spring; a few days around Christmas and New Year may be closed or shortened - check the current schedule, and note that last entry is earlier than closing. From Copenhagen take the train towards Aarhus and Aalborg; direct or one-change trains reach Randers in roughly 3 hours, and the zoo is a flat 10-15 minute walk from the station to the riverside. By car it is roughly 3-3.5 hours via the Great Belt bridge (toll) and the E45. Day tickets are sold at the entrance and online; booking is normally only needed for groups, animal encounters or special events - confirm current rules.
