Reading Terminal Market
National Historic Landmark · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Eighty-odd stalls under the train shed of the old Reading Railroad terminal, trading since 1893 and one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the United States. It is a working food market rather than a food hall — butchers, fishmongers, cheesemongers and produce sellers alongside the counters people queue at — and Pennsylvania Dutch farmers have driven in from Lancaster County to hold stalls here for over a century. Bassetts has been selling ice cream from the same spot since the market opened.
51 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19107, United States
Open daily, generally 8 AM to 6 PM, with individual stalls keeping their own hours and many closing earlier. THE PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH STALLS TRADE ONLY ON CERTAIN DAYS, generally Wednesday to Saturday. Closed on major holidays.
