Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park
Former Oklahoma State Park; Privately Operated As An Adventure Park Since November 2018 · Hinton, Oklahoma
A red sandstone canyon cut about 200 feet into the plains of western Oklahoma, hidden until you are at the rim, with walls of Permian rock and a floor of sugar maples, cottonwoods and ferns fed by springs. Wagons on the California Road came down into it in the 1850s because it was one of the few places to water animals for miles, and the descent road down the canyon wall is still steep enough to make drivers nervous. It was a state park until Oklahoma pulled out, and it reopened under private management in November 2018 as an adventure park, with camping, glamping, a swimming pool, rappelling and rock climbing on the canyon walls and trails to the rim. Day use costs $10 a vehicle for up to five people, $2 for each extra person and $5 for a motorcycle, and the state parking pass does not apply here.
