Regina Beach
A Prairie Lake Town On A Long Sandy Beach, With A Boardwalk, Cottages, A Marina, Small Museums And A Long Summer Season For Swimming, Sailing And Fishing. A Quick Holiday Escape From Regina, And A Stop On The Way To The Bird Sanctuary At The North End Of The Lake · Regina Beach, Saskatchewan
Regina Beach is a lake resort town of about 1,200 people on the south-west shore of Last Mountain Lake, roughly 45 km north-west of Regina on Highway 54, a drive of about 40 minutes (confirm). Last Mountain Lake is a long, narrow, shallow prairie lake, about 90 km from end to end, and the town grew from about 1910 as the railway carried Regina families out for cottage weekends beside a broad sandy beach. Today a boardwalk, a marina, a boat launch, small local museums, ice cream counters and rows of painted summer cottages keep that old holiday rhythm alive, and in July the water fills with sailboats, kayaks, anglers and swimmers. The shallows warm quickly but can turn weedy or green in late summer, so swimmers read the notices before wading in. At the far north end of the lake lies the Last Mountain Lake bird sanctuary, among the oldest in North America, which draws geese, cranes and shorebirds in spring and autumn. Winter is quiet, with most shops closed (confirm all hours, prices and dates).

Regina Beach is an open town, so the beach, boardwalk and shoreline can be walked at any hour of the year, and the best use is in daylight from late June to early September. The marina, the launch, the ice cream counters, the cafes and the small museums keep their own hours, which run longer from the May long weekend to Labour Day and shorten or close in winter, so confirm before you drive out. Lifeguard cover and beach washrooms are seasonal and may run only on warm weekends. Sunday evening traffic back to Regina is heavy in July. The bird sanctuary far to the north has its own seasons and rules.
