Revelstoke

City Of Revelstoke / Mount Revelstoke National Park Nearby · Revelstoke, British Columbia

Revelstoke is a railway and mountain town of roughly 8,000 people on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Columbia River valley of British Columbia, between the Selkirk and Monashee ranges. Revelstoke Mountain Resort sits just above town and has among the biggest vertical drops in North America, about 1,700 m, with deep, dry powder that also supports several heli-ski and cat-ski operators. In summer the same slopes serve mountain bikers and hikers, and Mount Revelstoke National Park and Rogers Pass are near, both listed as separate places. It suits strong intermediate and advanced skiers, powder chasers and outdoor travellers who want a real town rather than a purpose-built village. It is honest to say the terrain is steep and not ideal for first-timers, lodging is tight in peak winter, and off-season services are limited. Allow two to five days. Avalanche danger is real outside the resort, so confirm forecasts, lift hours and prices before you go.

The town runs year round, with shops, cafes and a heritage downtown open most days and shorter hours in the quiet months of spring and late autumn. Revelstoke Mountain Resort commonly runs a winter season from about early December to mid April and a summer season of gondola and bike operations from about June to September, with lifts usually closing mid afternoon. Heli-ski and cat-ski operators run in winter only. Exact dates, daily lift hours and any mid-week closures change each year, so confirm with the resort and your operator before you book flights or lodging. The railway museum and other small attractions keep seasonal hours, so confirm those as well.
