Rincon de Guayabitos

A Small, Calm And Cheap Beach Town On A Sheltered Cove, The Weekend And Holiday Beach Of Tepic And Guadalajara Families, With A Boat Trip To Isla Coral And Los Ayala Cove. Quiet Midweek And Packed In The Easter, Summer And Christmas Holidays. A Low Key Alternative To Puerto Vallarta And Sayulita · Compostela, Nayarit

Rincon de Guayabitos is a small, calm and cheap beach town on a sheltered cove of the Costa Esmeralda in Nayarit, about 60 km north of Puerto Vallarta by road and roughly 60 km west of Tepic. It is the traditional holiday beach of families from Tepic and Guadalajara, so the seafront is lined with palapas, small hotels, bungalows and snack stands rather than big resorts. The water is shallow and gentle, which suits young children, and small boats leave the beach for Isla Coral, where there is snorkelling, and for the Los Ayala cove nearby. Easter, summer and Christmas fill the sand with tents, music and crowds, while a weekday in low season is nearly empty. It suits families on a budget, retirees who like a simple beach, and anyone who wants Pacific water without Vallarta prices. It is worth the stop for a few days of cheap, easy beach life. It is not for nightlife, wild surf or luxury, and holiday weeks are too noisy for quiet seekers.

The beach is open at all hours and FREE to walk, sit and swim on, as all Mexican beaches are public. Palapa restaurants usually open from mid-morning to evening, and many small places are CLOSED or on short hours in the low season from May to October, especially on weekdays. Boat trips to Isla Coral leave mainly between mid-morning and early afternoon when the sea is calm, and operators wait for enough passengers. Holiday weeks have longer hours. Confirm times and prices at the beach the day before you want to go.
