The fifty-mile stretch of Farm to Market Road 170 between Lajitas and Presidio, known as El Camino del Rio, which runs directly along the Rio Grande through the canyon country on the southern edge of Big Bend Ranch State Park. It is routinely named among the most scenic drives in the United States, and its notorious Big Hill climbs a fifteen percent grade to an overlook where the river bends away below in both directions.

A public highway, open at all hours, free. Roughly 50 miles between Lajitas and Presidio, paved throughout with 15% grades. NO FUEL, WATER OR PHONE SIGNAL between the two ends. Low-water crossings flood after rain. Not suitable for large RVs or trailers.
