Rize Tea Gardens
A Terraced Hillside Of Turkiye'S Famous Tea Plantations With A Tea House And Views Of The Black Sea, A Tea Tasting Garden And A Short Walk Through The Bushes. A Scenic Look At Turkiye'S National Drink, In A Green And Rainy Part Of The Coast · Rize, Rize
Rize Tea Gardens climb the steep green hills above the Black Sea town of Rize in north-east Turkiye, in the wettest corner of the country, where the national drink is grown on terraces cut into the slopes. Neat rows of dark green bushes cover the hillsides, tea-houses perch on the ridges with views of the sea, and narrow paths lead through the bushes so that visitors can see how the crop is grown, picked and carried down. Tea growing here took off in the early republic period, and the plant has shaped the landscape, the economy and daily life ever since (confirm the dates). A botanical area and a tea garden above the town offer short walks, tasting and a panorama of the coast. The climate is mild and very damp, with mist, showers and low cloud common in every month, so a visit feels green, soft and a little wild. Most travellers spend two to three hours here, and many use Rize as a base for the Camlihemsin valleys and Ayder.
