Roan Mountain State Park

Tennessee State Park · Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Two thousand acres of hardwood forest in the Doe River valley at the foot of the Roan Highlands, close enough to the North Carolina line to work as the base for one of the most remarkable stretches of the southern Appalachians. Above the park are the grassy balds, the Appalachian Trail running the ridge, and the largest natural rhododendron garden in the world, which peaks in the last two weeks of June and shifts by a week or so from year to year. The park itself has the cabins, the campground and the trailheads.

1015 Highway 143, Roan Mountain, Tennessee, 37687, United States
