Rock Island State Park

Tennessee State Park · Rock Island, Tennessee

883 acres on the peninsula where the Caney Fork and the Collins River meet, below the 1916 Great Falls Dam. The centrepiece is an accident: Twin Falls pours straight out of a cliff face because the dam forced river water through the porous rock behind it, and it simply did not exist before the dam was built. There is a limestone gorge, the shell of the old cotton mill, and swimming on Center Hill Lake — though the river below the dam rises fast and without warning when the gates open.

82 Beach Road, Rock Island, Tennessee, 38581, United States

Open daily year round, free, generally 8 AM to sunset for day use. Swimming areas and river access close at short notice when the dam is generating — check the park status before travelling. Campground and cabins open to registered guests around the clock.
