Roebling Suspension Bridge

National Historic Landmark · Covington, Kentucky

John A. Roebling's 1866 suspension bridge across the Ohio River from Covington to Cincinnati, which was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened and which he built as the working prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge seventeen years later. It is a National Historic Landmark, it is painted a blue of its own, and it still carries traffic and pedestrians. The deck grating hums under tyres, which is why locals call it the singing bridge.
