Roger Maris Museum

Specialty Museum · Fargo, North Dakota

A seventy-foot glass display case built into the concourse of the West Acres shopping centre in Fargo, holding the trophies, bats, uniforms and locker of the man who hit sixty-one home runs in 1961 and broke Babe Ruth's record. Roger Maris grew up in Fargo, played American Legion ball here, and asked that his memorial be somewhere ordinary people would walk past rather than somewhere they would have to buy a ticket. It is free, it is open whenever the mall is, and it is one of the odder pilgrimages in American sport.

3902 13th Avenue South, Fargo, North Dakota, 58103, United States

FREE and open whenever the West Acres shopping centre is open, which is generally daily including evenings - longer and more reliable hours than any staffed museum in North Dakota. There is no admission, no ticket and nothing to book, and parking in the centre's car parks is free. The museum is a 70-foot display case built into the concourse rather than a separate room, so it is busiest when the shops are.
