Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest
National Forest · Medford, Oregon
About 1.8 million acres spanning the Cascade crest west into the Siskiyou Mountains, and across the California line. The Siskiyou half is one of the most botanically diverse temperate coniferous forests on earth - the geology is a jumble of serpentine and ancient seabed that never glaciated, so species survived here that were wiped out elsewhere. It holds the Wild and Scenic Rogue River, the Kalmiopsis Wilderness and the Oregon Caves, and the Rogue is the reason most visitors come.
