Rosa Parks Museum
History Museum · Montgomery, Alabama
A museum run by Troy University on the site of the Empire Theater in downtown Montgomery, where Rosa Parks was arrested on 1 December 1955 for refusing to give up her seat. Its centrepiece is a restored 1955 city bus and a projection sequence that puts you at the stop with her, and the rest of the museum is about the thirteen-month boycott that followed — the car pools, the walking, the church organising and the women who did most of it and are usually left out of the story.
252 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, Alabama, 36104, United States
Run by Troy University and following an academic calendar — generally weekdays and Saturday mornings, roughly 9 AM - 5 PM, with reduced hours in university holidays and some weekday and Sunday closures. Check before travelling.
