Rough Rider State Park

Subnational Park · Medora, North Dakota

A small park on the east bank of the Little Missouri two miles south of Medora, formerly called Sully Creek, which exists mainly to be a trailhead. It is the principal southern access to the Maah Daah Hey Trail, the place riders unload horses before heading north into the badlands, and one of the few developed put-ins on the Little Missouri. The campground is primitive, the corrals are the main facility, and the badlands start immediately.

1465 36th Street, Medora, North Dakota, 58645, United States

⚠ SEASONAL - generally open from spring to autumn with limited or no services outside that period. A per-vehicle North Dakota state park entry fee applies, and camping and the horse corrals are reservable through the state park system, with corral sites going early in the riding season. The Maah Daah Hey Trail that starts here is free and open year round in principle, but is impassable when the badlands clay is wet. The park was formerly named Sully Creek State Park and older maps and satnavs still use that name.
