The home of Kentucky Wildcats basketball in downtown Lexington, opened in 1976 and for decades the largest purpose-built basketball arena in the United States. Kentucky has more wins than any other programme in the history of American college basketball and eight national championships, and the building is the centre of a fandom that treats the sport with an intensity usually reserved elsewhere for professional football. It sits inside a convention centre, which is the unglamorous truth about it, and on a night when the team is good there is very little like it.
