Sadarghat and the Buriganga
River · Dhaka, Dhaka
The great river gate of Dhaka: the Buriganga waterfront at Sadarghat, where triple-decked passenger launches stack hull to hull at the terminal, ferries shuttle the crossing, and hundreds of small wooden boats stitch the whole roaring picture together. This is not a curated sight but the busiest river port in the country doing its ordinary day - departures for the southern delta, cargo swinging ashore, and the best free spectacle in the capital. The classic visit is a hired rowing boat out into midstream at golden hour, with Ahsan Manzil's pink dome rising over the chaos behind you.
Sadarghat Launch Terminal, Ahsanullah Road, Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh
The port works around the clock; visitors fit best between dawn and dusk, with golden hour into evening as the spectacle window and dawn for calm. Terminal entry is ticketed (small, recalled BDT 10-15, UNVERIFIED); boats hire continuously in daylight. Squall weather clears the small boats off the water.
