Saint Meinrad Archabbey
Monastery · Saint Meinrad, Indiana
A Benedictine monastery in the hills of Spencer County, southern Indiana, founded in 1854 by monks sent from Einsiedeln in Switzerland to serve German-speaking settlers. It is one of only two archabbeys in the United States and one of a small number worldwide, and it runs a seminary and school of theology alongside the monastic community. The Archabbey Church of Our Lady of Einsiedeln, built of local sandstone quarried on the property, dominates a ridge visible for miles across the surrounding farmland.
200 Hill Drive, Saint Meinrad, Indiana, 47577, United States
The church and grounds are open to visitors daily. The Divine Office is sung five times a day and Mass daily, all open to the public; times are published and shift with the liturgical calendar. The gift shop keeps daytime hours. The monastic enclosure is not open to visitors.
