Saklikent Gorge
An 18 Kilometre Canyon Up To 300 Metres Deep And Two Metres Wide In Places, Protected As A Nature Park; The Accessible Section Is Entered On A Cliff Boardwalk And Walked Up The River Bed · Seydikemer, Mugla
A river has cut eighteen kilometres into the Taurus behind the Lycian coast, in places three hundred metres deep and barely two metres wide, and the first stretch of it is one of the most visited natural sites in the region. You enter on a boardwalk clamped to the cliff above the water, which is spectacular in itself, and then the walkway ends at a point where the river has to be crossed - a waist-deep wade through snowmelt so cold it takes the breath, with a rope strung across to hold. Beyond that you walk up the gorge bed itself between walls that close overhead, for as far as the water lets you. How far that is depends entirely on the season: in spring the gorge is in flood and impassable, and by late summer it is low enough to go a long way up. Restaurants on platforms over the river serve trout at the entrance, which is where most visitors end up after the cold water has beaten them.
Saklikent Kanyonu Tabiat Parki, Seydikemer, Mugla, Seydikemer, Mugla, Turkiye
Open roughly April to October with a nature park entrance fee; the gorge is IMPASSABLE IN SPRING FLOOD and the walkable section depends entirely on the water level. In high summer the river is low enough to wade far up. The restaurants on platforms at the entrance run the same season. Check the water level locally rather than assuming.
