Salt Creek Falls

Waterfall · Oakridge, Oregon

A single 286 ft plunge into a basalt amphitheatre near Willamette Pass, the third-highest plunge waterfall in Oregon after Multnomah and Watson. It is unusually easy to see: the viewing platform is a couple of hundred yards from the car park off OR-58, and it looks straight down the length of the drop rather than up at it, which is a rarer angle than it sounds. A steeper trail descends to the pool at the bottom for those who want the conventional view.

Forest Road 5893-062, Oakridge, Oregon, 97463, United States

Open daily, dawn to dusk, with a Northwest Forest Pass or day-use fee at the car park. ⚠ THIS ROW IS MARKED SEASONAL FOR A REAL REASON - the access road and car park sit at about 4,000 ft, are snowbound through winter and are not always plowed, so the site can be reachable only on skis or snowshoes between roughly November and April. Flow peaks with snowmelt from April to June and drops noticeably by late summer without ever stopping. The platform and rock are permanently wet and freeze in cold weather.
